This medical museum is a grade 2 listed building and was opened in 1861 as a workhouse, it accomodated 784 paupers. By the end of the 19th century the buildings had become largely used for medical care for the poor. I t was used as a hospital caring for armed services personnel during WW1. It was used as a hospital until the 1990's where it was considered unfit for modern medicine. As a listed building it could not be demolished and was turned into a museum which was opened in 1997.
There are said to be many spirits the frequently haunt this former hospital. ghostly figures have been seen walking the corridors and people have been grabbed and touched by unssen hands. Whimpering noises have also been heard and shadows have been seen walking past people in broad daylight.
