Gloucester Ghost Walks
Gloucester Ghost Walks

This castle was built in 1843 by Captain Rice Powell for himself and his family. They moved in and settled down to life with Powell becoming a magistrate and a High Sheriff of Brecknock. But the family curse struck and Powell lost most of his nearest and dearest family members. He then died himself in 1862. The house passed through a few different owners over the years including, for a long time, famous opera singer Madame Adelina Patti, who sang for Queen Victoria. She installed a magnificent theater in the castle for her performances. She died at the castle in 1919. It was turned into a hospital not long after this time and had served as such during the second world war. It closed as a hospital in 1986. It was cared for by the Welsh government until it was bought privately.

There are many stories of spirits and eerie happenings at this castle. One famous one is that of the shadowy figure on the staircase which is said to send chills down your spine.
